On July 17, 2014, Eric Garner died while in police custody. Staten Island Police approached Garner, a 6-foot-3, 350-pound asthmatic because they thought he was selling loose cigarettes for 50 cent. As you’ll see in the video below, Garner did not resist arrest while being placed in a choke hold until he died. Police reports claim Garner died on the way to the hospital but you’ll hear one of the officers say, “Move, this is now a crime scene.” If he wasn’t already dead, how is it a crime scene? See the graphic video below and read more about this tragic story here: newyork.cbslocal.com.
Even if Garner was selling loose cigarettes, is it punishable by death? The fact that I could hear the radio playing in the background, sickens me! There should have been so much uproar by the community, all I should have heard were screams, cries and yells! We don’t work for the police department, they work for us! When are we going to stop fighting and killing each other and rise up against the system?
